Golden Goals: Achievement Collage

by Eric Pudalov, Community Events Coordinator

I don’t know if “collage” is the proper word, but it’s the best I could come up with. In the ongoing effort to think of a design theme for the Golden Goals Awards programs, I considered the idea of taking photos that would represent different types of achievements.

Among those might be music, art, cooking, social skills, and employment. So thus far, I’ve taken a series of photos with musical instruments, including flute and saxophone; a man playing the guitar; a pot cooking on the stove; some artwork around the office; and general office-setting types of images. Once they’re developed, I’d like to combine the best images in some way, and possibly use them on the inside of the Golden Goals program as a background.

I’m sure there are many more possible images I can include; I’ve had a lot going on lately, so it’s been difficult to make this my main project. I realize, also, that I’ll have to incorporate something along the lines of Photoshop to put together the final image – I may need a hand with that, but luckily I know several people better than myself with the Adobe Suite.

Actually, I would somehow like to use social media to encourage suggestions from others for this art piece. Any ideas, folks? And when I say “folks,” I include the likes of fellow bloggersGini Dietrich, Debra Askanase, and Sherry Heyl of Concept Hub, Inc. You are welcome to share.

About gcsscommunity

My name is Eric Pudalov, and I work as Community Events Coordinator with Georgia Community Support and Solutions, whose mission is to provide creative, life-enriching solutions to people with developmental disabilities and their families. I became interested in this field, however, due to having a disability myself; namely, I had brain surgery in 1996 at age 14, to remove a benign tumor. Following this, I had many difficulties with short-term memory, loss of strength, confusion, and emotional control. Fortunately, at present, I've recovered much of what I'd lost. Despite some setbacks, I graduated high school with honors, and received an academic scholarship to Adelphi Univ., where I earned a BA in Communications. Since then, I've held a number of different jobs and internships, among them a TA position at Sylvan Learning Center, and work as a "Service Leader" with Hands on Atlanta. Since living in GA, I've also been involved with two programs (including GCSS) that serve people with disabilities. My experience has included sharing apartments with adults with autism and other disorders. Though my so-called "limitations" may differ from those of others in the program, these experiences have helped me to realize that people, overall, are capable of much more than we may at first perceive. 1. Hmmm…I have to think about this.

    • Hey Gini…I hope that’s positive feedback! LOL. I realize it’s kind of a tricky question I asked, but I’m not expecting anyone to say “This is what you should do, absolutely!” Maybe if I provided some kind of example of what I had in mind, that would help?
